What is an Etching?

Laura has been using printmaking as her main medium for the past 20 years, producing primarily monoprints and etchings.

 

She creates her work at Edinburgh Printmakers, where she uses the communal printing studio and continues to develop her skills.

​

In this talk, she will explain how an etching is created, from the initial idea and sketches, to the translation of the drawing onto the copper plate through a range of techniques, to the printing onto paper.

 

She will share her sketches, the copper plates and tools she uses, and the proofs showing the development of a print through the process, as well as the finished work.
